The big brother moves in!!!

Dear Lerhol Family and Friends:

Sondre’s Big Brother Alex moves home:
Today, Alex officially moved back home, since he graduated from college a few weeks ago.  Now I live with three "BOYS"….what in the world has happened to my life. I’m surrounded by testosterone; and honestly feel like I live in a fraternity.

Alex and Sondre are a riot and bicker like real brothers.  They were just fighting over "bedroom real-estate". Alex thinks Sondre should move out of his bedroom, so he can move in to it, and Sondre is not intimidated by his "big brother" at all; he is planning to stay put in his room for the next 24 nights.

Tonight, Scott was giving Alex some "kitchen management tips” (also known as nagging) about keeping the kitchen clean and Sondre piped in and said: “Dude, I understand your pain”  I have to admit it was pretty darn funny.  He also said that he liked having Alex here, because it takes the pressure-off of him.

Seriously, they watch the weirdest TV shows: Swamp People, Duck Dynasty, Deadliest Catch, Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Ice Road Truckers…and now are watching the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s…  Gone are the days where Scott and I would watch Real Housewives of Orange County and talk about decorating and other “girlie” stuff…but secretly I do get a big charge out of them. J
Here they are watching the Hatfields and McCoys....a true story about a family fued after the Civil War.
Minnetonka Rugby Headed to the State Tourney
After winning tonight, Minnetonka secured a spot in the State Tournament…which is very exciting.  Sondre played really well…but it is a tough game and he got “roughed up a bit”.  Hope you have good dental insurance back in Norway since he had a few of his teeth knocked out and will need some cosmetic work.

(Gotcha!!!! The picture is photo-shopped...his teeth are just fine)

25 Days…..the countdown is on:
Sondre leaves 25 days from today…so we are working on getting him organized and packed up.  He has much more to bring back than he brought over here, so he is working on some creative packing solutions.  He will use his ski bags to load up some clothes, etc...

He leaves the day after his graduation party, so it is a great way for him to say good-bye to family and friends.  He has about 1,000 graduation parties to go to over the next few weeks too.

Scott and I are looking forward to our trip to Norway in August.  We arrive in Oslo late on Sunday, Augst 12th and then go visit the Gloppen's (Tore's parents) in Hamar on Monday and Tuesday and then head to the Lerhol family farm in Vang on Wednesday, Thursday and on Friday we head to Geirnger for Paul and Elin's wedding.  After the wedding, we head to Prague in he Czech Republic to meet Martha and Doug Miller for a few days.  This is a trip of a lifetime...we get to see good friends again, meet Jon, Sigrun and Synne for the first time and see Knut and Torstein again...plus attend a Norwegian wedding where we will see Tore again (the original exchange student).  Fun times.

Graduation
On Thursday, June 7th, is the actual graduation ceremony. Right after the party all of the students get on a bus for an ALL-NIGHT party at a un-known location...so it is a big surprise for the students.  Over-night graduation parties are very common here in the US.

On the last few days of school, all of the seniors participate in a huge volunteer effort to give back to the community.  Sondre and a couple of his friends are volunteering at Groveland, a local elementary school.  Apparently, they did not read the fine-print of the what they volunteered for, and after they signed up, they realized there was a prerequisite to be “Orchestra Students” to help out in the music department.  Oops, none of them are!  Either way, I think it is a nice gesture for the community and a great way to keep the kids focused on their last few days in school.

First Boat Ride of the 2012
We were able to get out on the boat last weekend on Lake Minnetonka and enjoyed a great day with all of the kids plus Amelia and Maxwell too.  Everyone went swimming and the water was really, really cold, but refreshing.

Tomorrow, we are going out on the boat again…and then coming back home to have a family game night.  Should be fun...Courtney is a wicked game player, but so is Sondre.  Let the battle begin.

Next update will be a graduation.

Hope all is well….

Lots of Love,

Alix and Scott
